Senior Government Journalist Tusiga Taofiga was bestowed the Chiefly title of Peseta last Friday morning at his home village of Pu’apu’a in Savaii.

Peseta Tusiga joined 41 other Matai who were bestowed the title at the village (Saofa’i) Ceremony. The titles were bestowed on the Descendants of Pesetā Iiga Tiumalu aemaise lona Tuafafine iā Sinafatuimoa.

“This Bestowal is to honour my Maternal Grandparents the late Pesetā Tautī Taofiga Sealiimalietoa and Mualavau Fuimaono – Sealiimalietoa.”

Tusiga who is a senior journalist with the Government owned Savali Newspaper told Newsline

“I want to thank my mother’s family for recognising and blessing me with this title bestowed on friday. I am very honoured. Thank you for the foresight in bestowing these important Family titles on us”

“I want to also thank the Sa’o of my Family, High Chief Peseta Luteru Taofiga and his wife, Fa’ai’uga Peseta, as well as my uncles and aunties both here and overseas for acknowledging me and honouring me with this title.”

Peseta also continued his thanks his mother Solialii Pesetā Taofiga “For her supporting me and acknowledging me to serve the family through this title.”

“I also want to thank my pastor Reverend Aperaamo Tufuga and Faletua Annie Tufuga for their support and blessings for me bestowal.”

“I also want to especially thank my Fiancee Kahelelaninoema Maria Kwon and her parents and family for their support and blessings given to me as well for the Bestowal”

The significance of the bestowal was not lost on Tusiga who told Newsline “The chiefly title that has been bestowed by my family, is an important guide to my identity and I will certainly treasure it.”

Peseta Tusiga Taofiga has been a Journalist for over 8 years, having joined Savali after completing his studies from the Media and Journalism Progam at the National University of Samoa in 2015.

He also won the Top Journalism Student award of that year.
