Around 300 enumerators, cashiers and drivers will start a planned sweep of the country starting on Monday, 24 August 2020, to undertake a pre-census and National ID cards surveys.
The workload will also include the handing out of $50 per person in a COVID-19 stimulus package by Government for every registered citizen of Samoa.
Government Statistician, Ali’imuamua Ms. Malaefono Ta’aloga, is hoping for a good response from everyone over the planned 9 week undertaking.
“ We start on 24 August 2020 and end on 24 October with our workforce grouped into 15 teams to cover Upolu and 5 working in Savaii,” Ali’imuamua explained.
Staff from the Ministries of Finance and the Women Community and Social Development are also included in the working groups.
The stimulus package cash disbursement is the responsibility of 60 Ministry of Finance cashiers.
The Ministry of Women will liaise with village representatives to help with the efficient flow of the work.
“This is a first of its kind survey for us in our role as the Bureau of Statistics with the taking of photos for each individual and finger painting for all who have received their money.
“Anyone who missed out either they were sick in hospital or for any other reason, will have two weeks after the survey to call into our office to collect their money and give us their details.”
The pre-census survey sets up the ground work for the actual census scheduled for next year.
