The Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi is saved a trip to Vanuatu in August for the Forum leadership meeting, canceled by fears of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Government of Vanuatu has formally advised of its intention to defer the 51st Pacific Islands Forum Meeting scheduled for 4 – 7 August 2020 to next year, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic,” a statement from the Forum Secretariat announced this week.

“The Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum and Prime Minister of Tuvalu, the Honourable Kausea Natano, will consult the Forum Membership and advise on the next meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum,” the statement added.

The regional leaders annual get together was last held in Samoa in September 2017 for the 48th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
