There are more than 1000 positive cases of the COVID – 19 pandemic in Samoa as of yesterday, Saturday 26 March 2022.
The Ministry of Health official update places the overall total at 1,057 after 216 new cases were added to the previous count of the day before, Friday 25 March 2022.
The community virus sweep is just 10 days old from the time a woman became the first person to be tested positive on 17 March 2022.
But the surging total count as of the weekend Saturday was largely expected in public speculations for most of the week.
There were only 7 new cases recorded in Savaii yesterday to nudge the full total on the big island to only 29 compared to a 209 count in Upolu to dominate with an overall total of 1,028 cases.
The smaller inhabited islands of Manono and Apolima are still COVID-19 free.
Women are showing to be more prone to the virus making up 57% of the total with men at 43%.
The 25-29 year olds are the most affected age group followed by the 15-19 year olds while the lowest are the 5-9 year olds.
The Saturday total count averages out to just over 100 new people per day with the virus in each of the last 10 days.
