An 87 year old woman is the first person to die in Savaii from COVID 19 related complications.
The Ministry of Health in an official statement tonight set the official time of death at 10.30am this morning, Sunday 3 April 2022, at the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital, Tuasivi.
The deceased was admitted last Thursday, 31 March 2022, with severe respiratory symptoms, and was diagnosed with COVID 19 and severe pneumonia, according to the statement.
She was from the Fa’asaleleaga No. 2 district and had no known existing medical conditions, however, she was unvaccinated.
The woman is now the second person to die in Samoa from COVID 19 related health complications.
The first was 5 days ago, Wednesday 30 March 2022, when a 67 year old man passed away at the Lalomanu District Hospital shortly after admission.
He had multiple existing health conditions.
