Opposition MP Olo Vaai could be the next target for the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, as he cracks down on smear tactics used in Parliament debate against Government.

Tuilaepa suggested on public media that a motion maybe made in the next session of Parliament to investigate the truth in claims by the MP from the Salega Constituency in Savai’i.

Tuilaepa did not point to any specific issue raised by MP Olo but warned, he will move a motion against damaging claims by any member in the House to be investigated for the truth.

His concern is to protect Parliament from being misled by untruthful claims.

“ Members who have made it a habit to knowingly and repeatedly make false claims against Government disrespects the integrity of the House,” the Prime Minister warned.

Salega MP Olo was signaled out by the PM as an example.

Tuilaepa noted that the member has a tendency to sneak in unsubstantiated claims during moments of heated debated to reflect poorly on Government development efforts.

“Standing Orders of Parliament are clear on any member who disrespects the integrity of the House by making false assertions to mislead members.

“These misleading claims can be verified by media coverage and it is a must for Parliament to take actions against it.”

The Prime Minister blamed MP Olo for the recent troubles suffered by the Gagaifomauga No. 3 Constituency MP La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt, for making false claims in Parliament.

“MP La’auli was caught up in a lot of troubles from listening and trusting too much to the prodding by MP Olo.”

Government scored huge success in getting MP La’auli into deeper troubles when the House Ethics Committee found him guilty of making false claims on the purchase of a generator for the Tanumalala Prison.

The recent findings and the damaging consequences have left the Gagaifomauga MP in a limbo that will carry into the next session of Parliament next month in August.

MP Olo is now also in a wait and see situation until Parliament meets.

Will the PM move a motion for the MP alleged claims in the House to be investigated?
