….yes it has been a very ‘on and off’ week with the weather. But it’s February and it is always unpredictable as it is now.
Suddenly the rivers rush downstream in a burst of speed as if it’s in a sprint race. For most who live on the flat, low lands, it an be a surprise as in the case of the Vaisigano River.
All the raining were on the hills not below so the flooding was unexpected.
People driving home after work at Lelata Bridge were surprised to see the police and the emergency workers on safety watch as the Vaisigano hurtles down river close to overrunning its banks.
The sight was both exciting and frightening at the same time because at that speed, no way anyone who falls in can swim out of it.
Have to feel for the travelling population on the eastern side of Apia when road crossings at key locations like the Eva ford when the water level rises.
Luckily for many they were still able to cross on bigger vehicles not the smaller ones. If not the alternative is to drive halfway around the island to reach home.
Stay safe and dry people.
