Parliament has ended the leadership of Government by the PM Fiame Naomi Mataafa.
The House carried a no confidence vote by 34-16 after the Government leader tabled the 2025-2026 national budget for debate.
PM Fiame will now be required to officially inform the Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi II, of the vote in keeping with the requirements of the Constitution.
His Highness will then move to start off the process of calling for general elections for a new Government.
PM Fiame’s leadership has come to an end with about a year still let to go before general elections in 2026.
