The Council of Deputies have three Members officially stepping up as of today, after a swearing in at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Convention Centre.
Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, a former Head of State, steps up as a Council of Deputies Member for the second time.
He was a Council of Deputies Member before becoming Head of State in 2007 .
The other Council Members sworn in today are newcomers, susuga Malietoa Fa’amausili Moli and Le Laulu Tiatia Mapesone Mapusua,
Malietoa Fa’amausili is the son of the late Head of State, susuga Malietoa Tanumafili II.
Le Laulu Mapusua is the son of Palauli Le Falefa late MP Mapusua Malo.
“All appointments are from God,” Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa congratulated the new Council Deputies after taking their oath of office.
Chief Justice Satiu Simativa Perese presided at the swearing in.
PM Fiame paid tribute as well to the country’s forefathers, who saw the need for a Council of Deputies to offer support to the Office of the Head of State.
She also acknowledged the services of the recent Council Member Le Mamea Ropati, whose term ended last year and is replaced by the newcomers.
