Mothers with young children in tag kept the Malaefatu Park at Sogi, busy with ‘Lotu Tamaiti’ Shopping this White Sunday Week.
The pace picked up noticeably yesterday, Friday, a day out from Sunday.
An uncommon but heartwarming sight was of several fathers helping overloaded mothers with childcare duties while shopping at the same time.
The normally roomy parking spaces were parked full for most of the day.
Heavy traffic ran long queues from the adjacent roundabout to Mulinu’u most of the day.
White was the dominant colour at the park starting with the shopping tents. All eyes though were on white wear for the children in all sizes with mothers included.
Not many clothing items were on display for fathers which showed much of where the focus was for this special day for children.
There were decorative wear of hairbands, bracelets and more to give the children their best look in church.
Mothers would not be too far behind as well with their own ‘lotu tamaiti’ fashion wear.
Fathers were as usual negligible; with most of them seen with their best ‘as long as it’s white’ Sunday wear.
Today, Saturday, is the last day of shopping and is expected to be chaotic in the desperate rush before closing time.
White Sunday is followed by ‘no work’ Monday to literally give everyone time to recover from all the weeklong rush.
Some health issues may need personal attention too with the mountain of rich food at the White Sunday church ‘toana’i’.
