….. the safety risk level must be peaking in the red zone for the traveling east coast population of Upolu, with all the rain and flooding of the past few weeks.
The tight coastal road running from Apia to the tip of the eastern end of the island is highly prone to landslide under the kind of heavy rainfall and flooding we have been going through lately.
The twists and turns of the road runs for most of the way next to high cliffs as seen in the photo above.
The danger of heavy water-laden mud and scoria sweeping from the heights onto the road below is high.
The danger is even higher to travelers below not knowing until too late.
Remains of a huge landslide some time back at Lalomanu , Aleipata, is still there to block off the road all the way to the sea.
In this weather be extra careful when you travel eastwards.
