….where our town seawall has become more than just a protection from the rising sea level. The gentle jogging in the background by a lone runner as the sun starts to set is another key chapter in the added value of the cement wall.
Exercise and good health was always one of the winning arguments in the debate whether to invest in the infrastructure or not. The best time to check if it has turned out true is in the morning before the sun rises and when it sets in the evening.
Beyond the health and protection the wall offers is the opportunity to observe the changing lifestyles. Jogging on the road used to be a ‘palagi’ thing while us Samoans watch and wonder.
Not anymore. It’s now a Samoan thing too.
