Newly appointed Vice Chancellor and President of the National University of Samoa, Tuifuisa’a Mrs Patila Amosa, has the celebrated distinction as a founding student for Samoa’s own established higher learning institution.
Tuifuisa’a was among the first students intake to start off the NUS University Preparatory Programme or UPY when it was initially established at Malifa Campus in 1984.
An added distinction is she also the first NUS graduate to take over the top leadership post.
Her academic pursuits continued from student status to being a lecturer, head of faculty, academic researcher, and an Associate Professor for the University.
All were achieved within the ensuing period of 30 years up to her lofty elevation to head the higher learning institution and Samoa’s academic pride at the Le Papaigalagala Campus To’omatagi.
Associate Professor Tuifuisa’a was one of four other applicants for the job and the assessment panel settled on her as their recommended choice for Cabinet approval.
The NUS will be under her direct leadership for the next 3 years.
