The call of politics has finally won over Ulu Bismarck Crawley.
“If this is my calling then I must take it,” this was the quick comment he made today inside the Mulinu’u headquarters of the ruling Human Rights Protection party, HRPP.
Chiefs and orators of the electoral constituency accompanied Ulu to have his name officially registered as a candidate for the HRPP in the upcoming 2021 general elections.
Ulu takes with him a high public profile as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for two consecutive 3-year terms.
He has become a household name in his role firstly with the measles epidemic and now the coronavirus pandemic.
Ulu is the Chairman of the Disaster Advisory Committee helping to co-ordinate all efforts to protect against the health threats through the National Emergency Organisational Centre, NEOC.
His decision to take up the challenge of politics as a candidate for the 2021 general elections has come after months of soul searching.
This will be his second attempt at a career in politics after a close run in the 2016 general elections.
“Is politics a calling for me, this is the big question for me personally and it is not an easy decision to make,” Ulu admitted a while back as he wrestled with whether to run or not in the general elections.
The why and the how in his final decision to stand for a seat in Parliament remains to be fully explained.
“Gimme a call and will set it up,” were his parting comments to Newsline Samoa about a full interview, as he rushed off today to catch up with the chiefs and orators waiting on him.
