A magnitude 5.9 earthquake was recorded in the early hours of Monday morning by the Meteorology Division at 1.47 am.
The earthquake report added prompt advise as well that there was ‘no destructive’ tsunami generated by the movement.
The centre of the earthquake was placed at a depth of 10km within the Tongan region 486 km southwest of Apia.
The earthquake on 2009 that resulted in a tsunami was recorded at a magnitude of 8.1.
The tsunami on 29 September killed 189 people on a sweep along the southeast side of Upolu, with many of the people drowned at the village of the Aleipata district.
