When it comes to travel between Apia and Pago Pago, the choice of carrier is our own national airline Samoa Airways.
The appeal of air travel on the route cannot be compared to flying between Mulifanua in Upolu and Maota in Savaii.
Boat travel is the preferred mode of transport between the two islands because it’s a short, fun trip that is also easy on the pocket.
Apia to Pago Pago travel by boat is a long, tedious overnight trip whereas it’s about a half an hour hop on air.
So when the national carrier calls for people to book for repatriation flights to American Samoa, the response is more forthcoming. Hopefully!
Hey it’s our tax paid national carrier so lets show some support here people while it’s going through a rough, coronavirus induced, times.
The other rival airlines are taking over our main money making routes while we’re stuck without an aircraft – even a leased one.
Isn’t there a song about a paddler caught in a canoe without a paddle? Well… our own airline, Samoa Airways, is in a similar kind of situation.
Unfortunately, it’s not from the lack of trying. If it’s any consolation our airline management should take up the brooms and go chase after the coronavirus.
