Fluttering Samoan flags on village fronts along the road to and from the Faleolo International Airport is a sight to behold.
For you first time visitors, the flags are for our 60th independence celebrations.
We’ve done the run of flags on the roadside before but not to this extreme.
The suggestion that it was to make people thankful to survive the COVID 19 pandemic won quiet approval from the critics.
The line of flapping red and blue meandering for the eye to follow as far as it can see is impressive.
Little surprise for us living in Samoa that the villages can this far.
The trick is to fire up the village chiefs to do something for the good of the country and they will gladly take the proverbial extra mile.
Great win-win move for the business community too.
The mind fingers are off on a sprint to compute how much each flag was selling for and what the shops were raking in.
A random thought that comes to mind is whether villages qualify to shop for flags from the $1m Govt. handouts?
If it’s for a national cause so surely that should qualify. This is a ‘Samoa Tula’i ‘moment folks.
“…..pity it’s not an Election Year, dear”
