An 88-year-old female elderly died from COVID 19 related health complications in the latest health updated report on the spread of the pandemic in the community.
The deceased is the second female to do so in a row at the same age.
The rare passing for this second elderly woman at the same age as the other who passed before her takes the total death count in Samoa to 28 related to the pandemic virus.
The passing of this most recent victim within the 3 – 7 June 2022 period noted that she was unvaccinated with no diagnosed health conditions.
The first 88 year who died between 30 May 2022 – 1 June 2022 had already completed two doses.
The Ministry of Health reported confirmed 263 positive cases from 03rd of June to 07th of June 2022.
The total number of confirmed cumulative positive cases both in the community and at the border is 14,187.
The spread of the pandemic in Samoa cannot be compared by a very large margin to New Zealand that has had over 1.22 million cases of the virus to date.
Their Ministry of Health’s most recent updated report on the pandemic showed 5130 new community cases of Covid-19 and eight deaths with the virus.
It brings the total number of publicly reported deaths of people with Covid-19 to 1311.
There are 332 people in hospital with the virus, including four who are in intensive care or high-dependency units.
Of the new reported deaths, one person was aged in their 60s, four were in their 70s, one was in their 80s and two were aged over 90.
