The 245 new COVID virus cases recorded yesterday, Friday 1 April 2022, is the second highest so far since the daily count started 17 March 2022, with the first person in the community tested positive.
The most within the last 17 days is 257 cases in one day on 21 March 2022.
Another key statistical point worth noting is that the overall count of new cases has broken past the 2000 mark with a total of 2,076 cases again as of 1 April 2022.
It has been about a week ago since the total count broke the 1,000 mark.
Based on the daily statistical count total as of today, Saturday 2 April 2022, the average number of new community cases works out to roughly 122 people infected a day.
The Ministry of Health statistics showed the infected rate higher in the 15-35 year old age group who makes up close to 45% of all the positive cases to date.
Making noticeable increases as well are those in the older 35-55 age group at 28% and in the 4 and below year olds of just under 6 %.
The inhabited islands of Manono and Apolima are still free from the virus whereas in the Savaii the count is now up to 51 cases or 3% in contrast to 2,025 or 97% in the more populated Upolu.
Mass vaccination is selected locations around Apia and in outlying urban sites are in a race against the spread of the pandemic virus in a mass vaccination campaign that has picked speed in the last two weeks.
Drive through vaccinations are also being organised help hastened the health protection process that involves everyone except for babies 4 years old and under.
