The long wait for the construction of the Worship Centre Headquarters at Sogi ended yesterday with the official opening in the morning.
The estimated $20m tala 3-story structure was dedicated before a small gathering of invited guests, restricted under the COVID 19 State of Emergency order to only 50 people.
The building can house congregation of up to 2 thousand people in a church service as well as serve as headquarters with offices located towards the roadside in the front.
“The construction phase took 4 years and two construction companies to finish the work, which has to date cost us $17 plus million tala,” Worship Centre spokesman, MP Alaiasa Sepulona Moananu, told Newsline Samoa.
“The finishing touches and other work still left to be completed is set to push the final budget for the whole project to $20m tala.”
No church service is scheduled today on the worship side inside the building, on its first Sunday since opening.
Church spokesman MP Alaiasa worried about how they can go about keeping the congregation to only a selected 50 people allowed by SOE restrictions to attend.
“We will just have to wait until the SOE restrictions are lifted – we would probably have to organise a special opening church service when that is possible for all our church members to attend.
The building added another high-rise to the Apia township landscape on the way out to the Mulinu’u Peninsula.
