More than a thousand 400 voters made an early start of polling at the Gagaifomauga No. 3 by-election currently underway in the Savai’i electoral constituency.
Elections officials from the Office of the Electoral Commissioner were already in place before the voters arrived to process the casting of ballots.
There are polling booths at each of the four villages in the constituency at Fagae’e, Sasina, Letui and Aopo.
Mobil polling booths are for Tuasivi Hospital in Savai’i, Moto’otua and Mapuifagalele in Upolu.
Former incumbent MP La’auli Leuatea Schmidt and Fa’aulusau Sami Laulua are the only running candidates to decide the seat for the constituency in Parliament.
The by-election follows the resignation by La’auli from Parliament in response to a combination of controversial issues he was involved in.
Polling started at 8.00am this morning and closes this afternoon at 3.00pm.
