The Samoa V8 Club Car Show that coincides each year with the nation’s 1 June Independence Day celebrations is back and automobile enthusiasts are raring to go for the 24 September competition.
The show, which took a two-year hiatus as did many public events due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020 and 2021, is hosted by the Samoa V8 Car Club.
Samoa V8 Car Club President Lemanu Gecko Keil did not provide details on the show when approached by Newsline Samoa, only saying that an official statement will be released next week.
In a 5 July statement published on the club’s Facebook page, the show’s date and categories for competition were announced, and a promise that the event is going to be “lit.”
It is not clear where the car show will take place but organisers have urged car owners to save the date and get ready.
“The moment y’all been waiting for: car show 24 September is going to be lit,” the club said in the Facebook statement.
“Save the date and get your beast ready. See you there! Stay tuned for more information.”
There are 11 categories: Best Bus, Best V8, Best Classic, Best Burnout, Best 4X4, Best Motorbike, Best Paint, Best Sound, Best Pomu, Best Japanese Import and Best Truck.
The burnout competition is a crowd favourite.
The last Independence Day car show, held in June of 2019 at the Faleata Racecourse, drew more than 100 classics, trucks and modified cars to the competition.
The wildly popular event drew thousands of spectators, more than 4,000 people of all ages to the Faleata venue.
Winners received $1,000 each.
