The University of the South is under a caretaker leadership while awaiting the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.
The USP leadership transition follows a meeting of the University Council in Auckland last May 2025 at the conclusion of Professor Pal Ahluwalia’s tenure.
The meeting resolved to set up an Interim Management Group (IMG) to bring together governance, academic and operational leadership to provide continuity and oversight during this period.
The IMG will ensure that USP remains stable, focused, and well-led as it delivers on its priorities, including the ambitious Investment Plan 2025–2027.
Teaching, research, and services will continue without disruption.
