The US Brown University School of has re-appointed the Director General of Health, Leausa Dr. Take Naseri, Associate Professor of Epidemiology for another 3-years.
The appointment recognises contribution to the University programme of study but carries no salary or terms of employment.
“Your appointment is contingent upon your continuing to provide service to or collaboration with the Department of Epidemiology…” the University’s dean of Public Health made clear.
The academic standing is valid for 3- years from 1 May 2021 – 30 April 2024.
The Brown’s School of Public Health was ranked 3rd behind Harvard and John Hopkins Universities in a 2021 listing of the Best Colleges for Public Health in America.
Leausa appreciates the recognition from the prestigious health learning institution of his contribution to public health.
The Director General is behind the National Emergence working committee co-ordinating the COVID-19 pandemic health protection state of emergency in the country.
Samoa is the first country to close its borders to international travel at the recommendation of the Director General and his health staff to effectively safeguard from the spread of the pandemic virus.
Samoa has remained relatively safe and protected for going on a full year now, since the protective measures against the pandemic started, under the on-going national state of emergency.
A COVID-19 vaccination roll out is currently running with more than 30,000 people vaccinated already out of a targetted population of 130, 000.
