Finding herself once again in Parliament was a ‘back home where I should be’ feeling for Alataua i Sisifo MP Ali’imalemanu Alofa Tu’uau.
The Alataua i Sisifo MP, who returned under the 10% seat for women representation in Parliament, was finally sworn in on Tuesday.
“I felt quite uplifted and excited at entering Parliament from my Alataua i Sisifo constituency as an MP in there to represent the women,” Ali’imalemanu stated.
“To me personally the emphasis of the moment was on the recognition of women and their contribution to the decision making process for Samoa.”
Ali’imalemanu shared the same sense of achievement with two other women MPs who joined her from Aleipata itupa-i-lalo, MP Fagaesealii Sapoa and Anoama’a 2 MP To’omata Nora Leota.
“This seat is not for political parties but for women, we are not here to fill in any empty gaps or make up the numbers but to represent us women.”
Ali’imalemanu with the support of her HRPP political party battled for well over a year for her Constitutional rights to be the 6th woman in Parliament.
Her swearing in with the other two women MPs was a rewarding end for her fighting spirit.
