The 12 weeks United Nations Samoa Challenge to promote Women’s Health and Wellbeing ended with the Women taking part in a fun but competitive crossfit games challenge at My Fit Samoa Gym.

The Challenge and Games  is the first of its kind in Samoa was a fun way of finishing off a 12 weeks challenge launched in commemoration of International Women’s Day .

The UN Resident Coordinators Office led the  initiative  with the support of the FAO, UNDP and UNFPA in close partnership with the MY Fit Samoa.

The teams were divided into two heats of four teams each and 4 women competing in each team. All teams took part in 3 events that included wall Ball throws, Deadlifts, clean and jerk, box step ups among others.

The Competitors were more than up for the challenge as many showed that the 12 weeks challenge had yielded great results for many.

My Fit Owner and Challenge Coordinator Mr Tuiloma Walter Imo said that the Games were a fun way to end the challenge and for the Women to show off the results of all their hard work the past 12 weeks.

According to the UN resident Coordinators office around 60 women signed up for the `12 weeks challenge, most of them taking part in yesterday’s Games.   The 12 Weeks #ChooseToChallenge for Women Health &Well Being is an initiative that aims to undo unhealthy habits and to create a sense of self-care and self-love for everyone to embrace a healthier and active lifestyle.

The 12 Weeks #ChooseToChallenge for Women Health & Well Being is part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocacy Movement to spur national interests, commitment and actions towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, within this Decade of Action. The Challenge aimed to achieve the following Sustainable Development Goals;

SDG 2: Zero Hunger through the work of the FAO on food and nutrition;

SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being, through the work of UNFPA on the sexual reproductive health of women;

SDG 4: Gender Equality through the work of the UNDP under the Women in Leadership;

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through the work of the UN in partnership with the private sector.
