The family of a Year 12 Amoa College student are struggling with their grief after he was ran over and killed a few days ago by a car that lost control on the road at Pu’apu’a village in Savaii.
Two other young male adults were injured in the same accident and were admitted at Tuasivi Hospital.
The boys were reportedly watching from the side of the road a night fundraising beauty queen contest organised by the Catholic Church in the village when the tragic accident happened.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident said they saw the car appeared to be traveling at speed as it swerved all over the road.
The deceased reportedly died at the scene of the accident from serious head injuries when he was struck and dragged by the moving vehicle.
His untimely death came at a time when he was sitting one of the two main college examinations at the end of the year for a Secondary School Certificate.
The two injured boys had tried to jump out of the way but were too late to avoid the speeding car.
The vehicle was seen traveling east to west from Salelologa to Samalaeulu when it rolled over and caused the fatal accident.
Assistant Police Commissioner Aupaau Mr. Logoitino Filipo confirmed the arrest of the driver on a holding charge for negligent driving causing death.
He expects more charges to be added relating to the cause of the fatal accident.
