The official ballot recount of the General Elections started today for electoral constituencies in Savaii at the Tuanaimato Election Centre.
There are 20 electoral constituencies to be counted and the winning margins in at least two are reportedly tight.
The electorates could not be officially named for now, but there are enough special votes yet to be counted, that can overturn the winning margin of the provisional totals from the results of the national polls last Friday.
“All the final results are released together at the same time to make the whole process easier and with less disruptions,” Faimalomatumua summed up the OEC position on the release of formal results.
The official count started last Monday for the 31 electoral constituencies in Upolu and moved to Savaii today, Thursday 15 April 2021.
Unofficial reports so far after the Upolu count shows there were some changes in some of the winning margins but not enough to overturn the winning results from the provisional outcome.
The ballot count is expected to continue into Friday and Saturday with the final results to be handed over to the Head of State to officially declare the winners.
A date should then be set for Parliament to meet and elect a new Government.
