One hundred years of rugby anywhere is worth celebrating and with Vaiala Ulalei Sports Club being the first established in Samoa it’s an extra special occasion.
That is why the whole village, led by paramount chief Tofaeono Fa’atali Leavasā, the family of Pātū and high talking chief Manogiamanu will come together in gratitude for a thanksgiving church service led by village pastor Reverend Iese Uele on Sunday 25 August 2024.
The Congregational Christian Church at Vaiala is expected to be filled with former players, coaches and supporters who have travelled to be part of the celebrations.
They will be joined by locally based players and coaches and club administrators.
“It’s also an opportunity to acknowledge those players and coaches who have passed on who helped in the development of rugby in our village,” said Club President Valuvalutumanu Siaopo Pese.
Former players and coaches now residing overseas are expected to be joining the celebrations with Pātū Dr Paniani Pātū and Rev Sotiaka Enari confirmed leading the delegation from Sydney.
Afioga Mauga Laga Jensen is expected to be leading the Auckland based Ulalei chapter.
The Slade brothers, retired Reverend Elder Lucky Slade and Lemalu Roy Slade are also expected to be present too.
Many others are expected but have not confirmed arrival dates.
The service will begin at 5pm Sunday.
All former and current players and coaches are reminded that the official uniform is available from Eveni.
