Teachers directed to safety by emergency workers outside the TATTE Convention Centre today Tuesday 20 Jan. 2021

Teachers were in a safety rush about mid-day today after the fire alarms went off inside the TATTE Convention Centre as they were holding their annual general conference.

Teachers were directed to a safe distance as emergency workers were called in.

The cause of the alarm was traced to one of the building toilets where security cameras showed a teacher setting off the emergency warning while smoking inside the room.

The Ministry of Education CEO Afamasaga Ms. Karoline Fuatai was addressing the large turnout inside the centre when the alarms were set off.

The conference was allowed to continue after the emergency workers declared the building safe.

The teachers’ annual conference is scheduled to continue tomorrow, Wednesday 21 January ’20.
