Taxis made to park bumper–to-bumper as they inch slowly into the LTA compound at Vaitele for licensing and registration started last week.
Taxis parked bumper-to-bumper along the side of the Vaitele Road that runs parallel to the Land and Transport Authority compound in a slow grind to be registered.
Inside the compound there was hardly room to move around where the vehicles were certified and approved for commercial service over the next 6-months.
The registration was the first of two scheduled for all commercial vehicles during the year.
The long queues maybe part of the rush to be registered in time to cater for the busy election period where a lot of movements are expected for travelling voters.
The taxi industry returns to the LTA registration requirement again this year after a COVID-19 stimulus package let them off for all of last year.
The national commercial fleet continues to grown from more than 15,000 taxis in service mostly in Upolu with a few in Savaii.
The LTA called a special meeting with taxi owners and drivers earlier this year to go over the requirements for registration and licensing starting up again this month.
