The Tautua Samoa Party leader is questioning the worth of daylight savings other than make it difficult for school children and workers to adjust to the time changes.
Samoa is winding the clock ahead by an hour starting a week from today next Sunday 27 September 2020.
“We won’t have anyone complaining if we kept the same times all year round, why we have to make the adjustments is hard to understand,” Afualo Wood Salele challenged.
“Daylight savings is good only for the person staying home without any need to keep time but not for the workers and the school children struggling with cold mornings.
“The children are more vulnerable to the colder morning temperatures and also exposing them to cough spasms with our flu season starting up.”
Afualo rubbished claims that daylight savings cuts down on electricity usage as people will leave home early for work.
As far as he is concerned it is of little worth except cause discomfort for people.
The public is advised to wind their time ahead by an hour next Saturday in preparations for the official time change the day following.
Samoa has practised daylight savings for more than 5 years now.
