LEADERSHIP AT SCHOOL : Marist Schools Governance Board Chairman Aumua Ming Leung Wai with Br. Kevin O’Malley and  new St. Joseph’ College woman Principal Afioga Gese Anamalia Anne-Marie Letu’uga Tauiliili-Li’a.

The St. Joseph’s College, Alafua, new woman Principal, today took over duties at the prestigious Catholic School.

Afioga Gese Anamalia Anne-Marie Letu’uga Tauiliili-Li’a, brings into her education responsibilities a career teaching experience, where she was born and raised in New Zealand.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in English) degree and Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching both from the University of Auckland.

She was an English teacher, a Dean, an Associate Head of English and a Community of Learning leader working alongside primary and intermediate schools. 

She also worked as a Senior Advisor to Principals for the Ministry of Education in NZ.

“We have chosen a Principal whom we truly believe can turn our dream into reality,” boasted Aumua Mr. Ming Leung Wai, Chairman of the Marist Schools Governance Board and President of the Marist Brothers Old Pupils Association.

Aumua revealed the rigorous recruitment process “… to find the best” candidate for the role, in his address at the official welcoming ceremony for Principal Gese at the college grounds, Alafua.

“ Last year, we prayed hard to God and we re-advertised the position of Principal 3 times, and  interviewed applicants from here and overseas and I believe we found the best,” he asserted.

Principal Gese is a mother of 5 children and 2 grandsons. 

Her father is from Sataua, Iva and Afega whilst her mother is from Lauli’i and Mulivai, Safata. 

She is a devout and practicing Catholic and is the Chairperson of St John the Evangelist Parish in Otara, Auckland NZ.
