Seven people were slapped with $200 ticket fines by the Police for breaking the vaccination lock down rules.

Samoa was in a lock down for two days last month so that people who had not been vaccinated for COVID-19 could receive their vaccine. This action was also taken to use the vaccines donated through the WHO before they expired.

Acting Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said that these people were found either walking on the main road or driving their cars on the public road in their villages during the lock down hours.

Auapaau added they were given a warning first but they did not take heed for they were found doing the same and so they were issued with the tickets.

He offered that Police did not want to charge anyone but they had no option when these people after a warning failed to obey.

“ The role of the Police is to enforce the law.”

Seven hundred (700) police officers were on patrol throughout the country on those two days.
