The Assistant Attorney General, Fuimaono Sefo Ainuu, is leaving the Office of the Attorney General.
He has tendered his resignation for personal reasons and will remain to serve out a mandatory one month before leaving.
His decision has been a difficult one that he readily admitted while acknowledging the support of Attorney General Su’a Helene Wallwork-Lamb.
“I leave the AG to a very capable team of lawyers who are committed to the work and whom I am very proud of,” Fuimaono assured.
“As for the next step for me? God willing, I hope to continue to use the skills I have learnt from public service to serve our community from the private sector.”
Fuimaono paid tribute to his Civil Litigation team and all his office colleagues.
“I acknowledge with gratitude the former Attorney Generals whom I have worked with for their contribution in molding my career, namely Tuatagaloa Aumua Ming Leung Wai, Lemalu Hermann P. Retzlaff, Savalenoa Mareva Betham-Annandale, and our current Attorney General Sua Hellene Wallwork-Lamb.
“ I would like to make special mention of my past immediate supervisors and Assistant Attorney General (Civil Division) and their mentorship, namely Ms Rebecca Wendt, Loau Donald Kerslake, and Ms Muriel T. Lui.”
Fuimaono was among the high profile lawyers, closely involved in the legal battles following the controversial outcome of the 2021 April general elections.
He was a member of the team of prominent legal counsels from the AG’s Office directly involved in court litigation over the extra seats for women MPs in Parliament.
His high profile continued into court appeal hearings that followed earlier rulings of politically related matters.
Fuimaono joined the Office of the Attorney General in 2007 where he has served for about 15 years straight after he graduated law school from the University of the South Pacific.
