International Maritime Day directed public attention during the week to vital supply lines that seafaring trade are able to maintain during these bad times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
International Maritime Day is an annual celebration on the 25th June.
The Minister of Women and Social Community, Tuitama Dr. Leao Tuitama made the observation to mark the special day for seafarers around the world and in Samoa last Friday.
“The pandemic has shown how much we value and depend on this seafaring trade for our survival and well being by keeping the supply lines open to meet our needs for food, medicine and more,” Tuitama said at the Maritime Ocean Campus at Mulinu’u.
“Many of the seafarers who picked up the pandemic virus are unable to continue in their work so we are grateful for those able to keep the service going, especially our own seafaring sons and daughters.”
Tuitama offer all the Samoan seafarers the gratitude of Government in every corner of the seas where they are serving.
A demonstration of life rescuing skills at sea with use of life rafts added to the marking of the International Day along the calm midday conditions of the coastal waters of Mulinu’u.
