Jazz musicians from the two Samoas are certainly ready to enjoy a good Jazz jamming session with the public, at an impromptu Island jazz performance today, Friday 13th at Sails Restaurant and Bar at Mulinu’u.
In the past few weeks, the dedicated group of local Jazz artists have been rehearsing at one of their old stomping ground, at Sails. They were building up to an informal performance for local Jazz enthusiasts two weeks ago, to commemorate the annual International Jazz Day on 30th April.
Today’s Friday the 13th’s relaxed session will have a mix of local musicians, and special visiting musicians from American Samoa.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the sultry jazz sounds of the popular 90’s Jazz group Shadze of Samoa, anchored by the popular local base guitarist Afioga Funefe’ai Oliva Va’ai, as well as other very well established musos.
The American Samoa visiting artists includes the legendary Master Ulale Pusi Ulale and Mr Tom Scanlan.
The impromptu performance is free this evening from 5.30pm, with no cover charge.
It is a generous gesture from these brilliant sons and daughters of Samoa, and is open to the public or those who appreciate this genre of Island sounds.
” However, …. ” as Seiuli Ian Black, the proprietor of Sails interjects gently, – “as we know our people, they always appreciate these acts of kindness and goodness of people’s hearts.”, Seiuli says.
“I know that when our spirits and souls are moved so beautifully, our people will always likewise reward and give generously to our artists!!”, encourages Seiuli.
“It’s going to be quite a treat.”, he assured gently.
Seating will open from 5pm onwards.
