Samoa has put in place a national strategy to control gas emissions in a national effort to contain the damages from climate change.
The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster, launched the undertaking last night.
The strategy is being tied closely to a roadmap for national development in Samoa, also lunched by the Minister to be carried out in unison.
Toeolesulusulu went over the harmful emission problems for Samoa that appears to be related mainly to road vehicles.
“We have a 24% increase in registered vehicles bringing the total to 29,600 in the country so it’s not surprising,” he said.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will be responsible will be responsible for handling the strategies in collaboration with other Government Ministries and State Owned enterprise.
A large crowd attended the launching that included foreign diplomats and expatriates contracted to many of regional and international organisations based in Apia.
Assistance from overseas countries and other donor partners normally play a strong supporting role in the national development of Samoa.
