The Samoa Rugby Union has learned with sadness of the untimely passing of a member of the recently announced U23 training squad.
Joseph Une was identified as an up and coming player with potential for higher rugby honours and chosen to represent his country.
SRU Chairman and Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and the Samoa Rugby Union extend sincere and warm condolences to his parents Leilani and Ofeira and their extended families over this tragedy.
“While I do not want to take away from the family’s grief at this time, I believe it would be amiss for the leaders of this sporting body not to take this opportunity to again reiterate to all players, at all levels, the importance of being vigilant in looking after their safety at all times,” Tuilaepa said.
“My condolences to the parents and extended families of young Joseph Une.”
