Chinese and Samoan travellers between the two countries will not need entry visas anymore.

A visa exemption agreement was signed in Samoa this week for that purpose.

Talks between China’s President Xi Jinping and Prime Fiame Naomi Mataafa while on an official visit to China in November last year made it possible.

The agreement highlighted the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Samoa’s established in 1975 and the Chinese Spring Festival celebrations this year.

The Ministry of the Prime Minister’s CEO Agafili Mr. Shem Leo and China’s Ambassador to Samoa, Mr Fei Mingxing, signed the agreement on Thursday 23 January 2025.

An economic and technical support agreement is in place as well following the two leaders meeting.

Several Memorandums of Understanding on economic development, unimpeded trade, global development, education and health were signed as well.
