By Staff Writer

Samoa is named as one of the key transit points for illegal drugs shipped to Australia and New Zealand from Mexico.

An Australian media report claimed Mexican cartels and motorcycle gangs are using Fiji, Samoa and Tonga to ship off meth and cocaine to international markets.

There is however, growing concern according to the media report, of the drugs starting to seep into local communities.

Law enforcement services admitted to a noticeable increase of drugs turning up in the streets of Fiji’s two main townships of Suva and Nandi.

The media report did not go into how far the use of illegal drugs have seeped into the Samoan and Tongan village communities.

There have been a few cases of illegal drug shipments uncovered in both countries though.

Samoas police have a sniffer dog helping with their illegal drug inspections at the airports, sea port and around the villages.
