The Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority (SFESA) has added more trucks and equipment to its service with continuing help from the Government of Japan.
SFESA received on assistance two second-hand water tank trucks, two second-hand pumper water tank trucks and two flood lights with equipment officially handed over officially on Saturday 23 August 2024.
A grant of up to USD282,309 (approximately SAT760,000) made it possible after it was signed out to SFESA in 2022 to buy, recondition and ship the emergency equipment from Japan.
The second-hand vehicles, once used by Japanese local public organizations and brought to Samoa through the Society of Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy, have been thoroughly reconditioned to ensure they meet high operational standards and are in excellent working condition.
Japan Ambassador to Samoa, H.E. Mr. SENTA Keisuke was present at the official handing over of equipment.
The Minister of Fire and Emergency Services Authority, Hon. Faualo Lefau Harry Schuster attended also as well as the Board chairperson, Aiono Meresaini Siaosi Laulua and distinguished guests.
The project was made possible through the ongoing scheme of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The development assistance has been ongoing for 33 years, which focuses on small scale projects that directly benefit at the grassroots level as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of Samoa.
