MOVE IT : Car-wreck abandoned on the side of the busy east side road at Moata’a.
Concerned public reactions were starting to stir at the disturbing sight of a sedan car abandoned on the roadside, after it appeared to have struck a protective rail in front of the Moata’a Mangrove.
Close by family residents timed the accident late Friday night to early Saturday morning, when the car reportedly struck the rail and caught fire.
This section of the road is part of the main access for villages on the eastern side of Apia and is well travelled.
Travellers who went past the car since Saturday were starting to wonder at the end of the day yesterday, Monday 16 October 2023, why it is still there, 3 days later.
“It’s not just an eyesore but an embarrassment to our image as a tourist destination the longer this ugly sight remains,” one agitated traveler complained to Newsline Samoa Online.
The offensive scene is only a few hundred meters from the busy traffic road entry to the Taumeasina Island Resort
Black scorched marks were seen mainly on the car front end of the car and where it touched the protective rail.
The car also appeared to have been fully stripped of its engine and on the inside.
Newsline Samoa Online understands from public complaints that the police was asked about the removal of the wreck but was told it was the family owner’s responsibility.
It is not clear if the police has given the family a deadline to remove the damaged vehicle or any likely violations they are liable for if unable to do so.
