By Staff Writer

A 21 year old with Samoan heritage, Byron Lutelu, is emerging as a promising race car driver in Australia’s speed track scenery.

Born in Australia on September 14, 2003, he is the son of Mele and Lee Lutelu.

He is the first Samoan-Australian racing car driver to compete in Supercars 2025 TGRA GR Cup series in various locations around Australia.

“Byron has stepped into my Toyota 86 Scholarship programme in 2025 and immediately  impressed, running inside the Top 10 and now graduating to GR Cup,” team principle Marcus Ladelle pointed out.

“Byron has demonstrated everything he needs to move up in the world of Motorsport and I can’t wait to see what he can achieve on Australia’s biggest stage this year.”

The emerging young talent’s interest in car racing began at the early age of four when he received an electric Spider-Man quad for Christmas.

“I eagerly took the opportunity to give everyone rides around the family backyard on a hot Australian Christmas day,” he remembered.

“From that moment on, I gravitated towards anything loud, fast, and thrilling.

“I experienced my fair share of falls and injuries, which taught me that every risk and disappointment builds resilience.”

Byron credited his Samoan background and very close-knit family, for instilling in him the values of teamwork and hard work.

“Anyone can drive fast, but to be a respected driver, one must show respect to others,” he underlined.

“ It’s essential to remain humble and appreciative toward everyone involved— crew members, sponsors, officials, and media.

“They are all part of this amazing journey that I intend to continue for as long as possible.”
