(25th November 2020) : Today marks another milestone achievement in our quest to establish sustainable infrastructure that will facilitate our journey towards sustainable development. We are here to launch all the completed airport development projects that were funded by the World Bank Group. As some of you are aware the total investments in these airport projects is SAT $102,469,137.64.
We acknowledge also the support of the Pacific Regional Infrastructure Facility for funding the consultancy services contract provided through the Pacific Aviation Safety Organisation in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Works Transport and Infrastructure.
The program components include the replacement and upgrading of the airport runway lights, the Air Traffic Control Communications system, the procurement of two fire trucks, 2 rescue boats, 2 generator systems, provision of new airfield light cabling as well as a new fibre optic ring. Importantly also is the completion, including sealing, drainage works and extension of the runway and apron.
All of the upgrading works were deemed critical given the lengthy period involved in implementation of maintenance schedules over time and finding the requisite resources for such works. The airside initiatives complemented by the already completed landside developments assisted by the government of China have ensured that we now have quality airport infrastructure.
Again I wish to reiterate the appreciation of the Government to all our development partners involved in this program to ensure safe and secure travel for our people.
In conclusion please join me in turning on the lights of the Faleolo airport Christmas Trees in the form of the Control Towel. I take this opportunity to wish you all and Samoa a peaceful and safe festive season.
Soifua ma ia Manuia.
