The Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa is expected home today after making a quick swing trip for a medical check-up in New Zealand after the Forum leaders meeting in Fiji last week.
The medical is the first she has taken since becoming Prime Minister last year.
“Paid medicals are standard arrangements for Government leaders twice a year,” Ministry of the Prime Minister, CEO Agafili Shem Leo confirmed.
“Fiame was able to schedule hers to follow the Forum meeting, which is normal practice for most Government leaders who try to fit the timing while on overseas official commitments.”
The Prime Minister was in New Zealand earlier to meet with her counterpart PM Jacinda Ardern before continuing on to the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Rwanda.
Her second trip out of the country was to attend the leaders forum in Fiji.
Others in her Cabinet have already taken their first medical check-ups since taking office.
Opposition leader Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, underwent Government paid medical treatment also in New Zealand earlier in the year.
