Taking care of the environment and cleanliness is the message students from Papauta Girls College want to send out.
A group of 50 students from the all- girls college were out around and about town doing their part of picking up the trash yesterday. Areas they concentrated on were the Bus stops in town and at Motoouta Hospital.
According to the deputy principal of the College Ms Tele Sio these places they had noticed were littered with so much rubbish people using these areas leave behind. So they decided to beautify these by cleaning up the ugly trash.
Ms Sio said that this was a service to the public and lending a hand to the government. At the same time she added putting into practice what the students are learning in the classroom.
“ Not only do we teach in the classroom but we try to make the students practice but more importantly they should get used to doing these,” Sio said.
There were some rubbish collected that students found which could be reused . Plastic paper was bagged by the students for use in their school projects.
Other common plastic thrown around these places were bottles and various kinds of plastic. The clean up prevented these material from making their way to the sea causing damage to the marine life the deputy principal said.
The clean up was the college’s part in keeping the environment clean Ms Sio said. “Cleanliness is very important must be emphasised to the children.”
