….almost everywhere you turn these days there are bound to be oranges…mostly yellow ripes ones of the variety the locals fondly refer to as ‘moli saiga’.
Sellers normally favour busy shopping locations like this one infront of Frankie’s Supermarket at Lotopa.
Not anymore. Hibiscus hedges in front of family homes are where you’ll find some, laid out either on a small table under an umbrella or on a small cardbox .
Most of the time there is no one to be seen, but don’t let that fool you. As soon as you walk by and stop to show interest in the oranges, someone will suddenly turn up from seemingly nowhere.
Yes sir, that’s how these orange sellers roll. Selling local oranges when it is in season is a long standing tradition.
Back then it was mostly at the produce market. Today they are everywhere. Credit better transport.
Many of the side street sellers sit inside their small Japanese vans selling their farm produce. At the end of the day when it’s time to go home, simply pack the oranges back into the car and off they go.
Enjoy your orange.
