Lately, everywhere one turns, there is bound to be a flag of Samoa fluttering away in the breeze.
On the main street of Apia along Beach Road, virtually every third or fourth passing car has one flying on the hood or boot.
Sporting success, especially at the international level in both men and women’s national teams , are the main inspirations for the fans merry making blow up.
What seems to be the new trend are the fans fanatical transformation of flying the flag in support of sporting heroes, whether at home in Samoa or out in the diaspora.
Local police recently imposed a ban on celebration parades along Apia after the unruly behaviour of some young sporting fans who went overboard
But whatever behaviour the masses display in celebration, the sea of waving flags will always tug deep into the patriotic heart when they sway like a moving ocean.
The best place to catch all that is in a confined setting like in a sporting ground as pictured in the photo above.
