HOS Tuimaleali’ifano with Masiofo Leinafo and UK new High Commissioner HE Andrew Nethercott

Diplomatic relations of more than half a century between Samoa and the United Kingdom, was highlighted this week at the Vailele Residence of the Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi II.

Newly appointed UK High Commissioner to Samoa, HE Mr. Andrew Nethercott presented his credentials to His Highness at a ceremony on Thursday.

High Commissioner Nethercott reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening relations with Samoa during his tenure.

The Head of State in response reflected on Samoa’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October 2024 and the visit of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Samoa.

H.E. Nethercott is a career diplomat who held various senior positions with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

He has served in various the UK’s various diplomatic and international roles in Brussels, Pretoria, Islamabad, Severodonetsk in Ukraine, Khost in Afghanistan and Accra, Ghana.

His diplomatic posting is for a period of three (3) years.

Formal diplomatic relations started in September 1970 between the UK and Samoa.
